Intro

If you don't know already, my name is Quigley. I've held titles such as master ice cream maker, freelance photographer, and licensed bartender but presently I preoccupy myself as a backend developer. As a developer I've worked on a number of different issues like satellite imaging, health & wellness, HIPAA compliancy, community building, and much much more. If you'd like to learn more about my work, over head here.

However, I'm not just my work, I also have quite a few hobbies. I'm an avid cyclist, and that's my primary means of transportation. I like running a fair bit and can often be found in the mornings running with The November Project. Currently I consider myself an armchair philosopher, but would eventually like to go back and get my PhD in philosophy from UW-Madison. I also spend some of time time in imaginary worlds through games like Dungeons and Dragons. This last one however also crosses over into the work category as I launched a company, Roll For Guild, which builds software tools to help cultivate and grow the community around tabletop role-playing games.

If you ever want to "accidentally" run into me around Madison, I can often be found working out of 100state, reading at Michelangelo's Coffee, or relaxing with friends at the Union Terrace.

Experience

I'm primarily a backend developer. I've done full stack development in the past, but I feel at home at the back of the stack. The systems I focus on are APIs, CLIs, data pipelines, and databases. I don't claim to know the solutions to all (or even most) tech problems, but I do like to think that I'm pretty good at finding solutions. Additionally, I love learning new technologies and am an avid reader of source code for packages and libraries because I like knowing how things work. If I'm master of anything, it's reading mass quantities of documentation.

Roll For Guild

Co-Founder - (August 2017 - Present)

Roll For Guild is building tools to cultivate and grow the community around tabletop role-playing games like Dungeons and Dragons. We're focused on breaking down barriers to entry by making it easier to find local play groups and decreasing the deceptively intimidating learning curve. I've been part of the company (or it me?) since I first thought of it in early 2017, and because of that I've worn a lot of hats. I'm part of marketing, product direction, product development, business relations, and community engagement. Additionally, I was the original creator of the RFG Elixir Phoenix API and am still a primary contributor.

Kilter Rewards

Technical Co-Founder and
Lead Backend Engineer - (May 2017 - May 2018)

Kilter Rewards is company focused on helping people reward themselves for working out. While there I built their Golang API from the ground up. Additionally I began the process of normalizing their MariaDB database, oversaw the transition from DigitalOcean to AWS, and created a CLI for handling support issues.

Space Sciences and Engineering Center

Student Developer - (August 2016 - May 2017)

At the Space Sciences and Engineering Center I was part of the SIPS team which handles the ingress of weather satillite imaging. During my time there my focus was on building systems to monitor and support the processing of weather satellite imagery. My main project was building an ETL system with RabbitMQ, Python, and Postgres for monitoring the processing of the satellite imagery. Additionally I constructed a website and Python Falcon API for visual representation of the data and a CLI with Golang for managing the ETL system and also enacting manual support tasks.

Datica/Catalyze

Intern Software Engineer - (May 2015 - May 2016)

Datica (formerly Catalyze) provides HIPAA compliant cloud computing services for healthcare companies. At Datica, I helped build a backend and frontend for monitoring and managing infrastructure. I took initiative to build various internal systems integrations to provide the data analytics tools necessary to support the rapid expansion of the sales and marketing teams. Additionally, I helped develop innovative features like environment metrics tools utilizing the ELK stack for Daticas's Compliant Cloud (formerly Stratum) product.
